Katherine Ray’s family knows what she did this summer. And she made them all proud. In the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa, no less.

Ray, the reigning Miss Teen Pumpkin Fair and a world-ranked competitive sport stacker, just came home from the Iowa competitions with honors that made his parents, Dale and Tanya Ray proud. She received a bronze medal in the event called The Cycle, missing the silver or second place, by the merest .02 or two-hundredths of a second.

The Sierra High School sophomore who attended Stella Brockman Elementary earned an invitation to the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Iowa because of her world ranking as a competitive sport stacker. Her father said she impressed judges with her sport stacking demonstration at the Miss Teen Pumpkin Fair competitions. She also has video postings on YouTube showing her skills in action under the name, Ray of Kat.

Sport stacking is an individual and team sport that involves stacking specialized plastic cups in specific sequences in a s little time as possible.

“She has been competing nationally at other competitions for several years. Prior to this event, she was ranked No. 6 in the nation. She has been featured twice on Good Day Sacramento,” said proud father Dale Ray.

Katherine and her mother “decided to make (the trip) a mother-daughter event and they actually drove from Manteca to Iowa,” and from Iowa back to Manteca, said Dale, arriving in the Family City just in time for the start of the new school year.
