A Lathrop-Manteca Fire District firefighter is being held without bail in San Joaquin County Jail on an attempted premeditated murder charge in connection with a Dec. 1 stabbing at The Pub, 1305 North Main Street at Joseph Road.
Manteca Police said Brandon Dean Burlingame, 35, was identified by witnesses who recognized his Jus Brothers Motorcycle Club patch on his jacket when he allegedly fled the scene of the altercation on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 p.m. He was arrested by officers from the Manteca Street Crimes Unit (SCU) at 7:45 a.m. Thursday after he left his French Camp home on a traffic stop at McKinley and Watters Road.
A 43-year-old male was stabbed at the bar and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital. Police say he is expected to survive.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Burlingame has also been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and given an added enhancement charge.
The Jus Brothers Motorcycle riders are recognized by police as an affiliate of the Hell’s Angels Motorcycle Club.  Burlingame had recently posted a photo of himself wearing a motorcycle club vest on his Facebook page.
Lathrop-Manteca Fire Chief Gene Neely rushed home from his assignment at the Southern California fire lines near Ventura on hearing of his firefighter’s arrest.  He noted that Burlingame was a veteran firefighter in his district.
“The alleged actions of our department are in direct conflict with the mission of the Lathrop-Manteca Fire District and the oath we swear to uphold,” Neely said in a release. “It is imperative that the public understands that at no time was the safety of the public in jeopardy while this member was otherwise on duty.  Furthermore, this isolated incident is the result of alleged actions taken by one member of the department.  The alleged incident for which he was arrested did not occur while in uniform, while on district property, or while the employee was working.  Again, these are the sole actions of one employee and the LMFD is fully cooperating without our partner organization – the Manteca Police Department.”
Burlingame had his residence listed with two addresses – French Camp and Manteca.
There has been no appearance scheduled to date in the San Joaquin County Superior Court either in Manteca or in Stockton.
Anyone with information on the stabbing is urged to contact Manteca Police supervising Sgt. Gregg Beall at 209-456-8164 and reference the case number 2017-42659.
