The Ripon Senior Center Parking Lot project will go on as according to plan.
The Ripon City Council awarded the contract that includes handicap ramps and sidewalks to Taylor Backhoe Service, Inc. at Tuesday’s monthly meeting.
The family-owned construction company from Merced was one of five bidders project, Engineering Supervisor James Pease said.
At $218,149, Taylor Backhoe Service was the low bidder, beating out George Reed Inc. ($261,855), California Highway Construction Group Inc. ($281,035), FBD Vanguard Construction Inc. ($311,826), and Richard Townsend Construction Inc. ($314,766).
All bids were received on March 5.
Pease indicated that the work includes applying a “type II” slurry seal on the Ripon Senior Center parking lot and installing ADA accessible handicap ramps and sidewalk in the residential neighborhood adjacent to Ripon High.
The only questionable part was the dollars and cents. The project is being funded using $203,391 from the Community Development Block Grant.
The Street and Road Fund would handle the balance, with Pease leaving it up for discussion to elected leaders on possible change orders.
Council, instead, agreed to go on as originally planned, taking $14,757 from the Street and Road Fund, which had balance of about $2 million as of Jan. 31.
