Ripon could soon have its first wine-tasting room in downtown.
The Ripon Planning Commission will meet Monday at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 259 N. Wilma Ave., on turning an existing building at 111 E. Main St. into a wine bar.
A public hearing will be held on this plan. State law prohibits commissioners from taking action on this item, with anyone requesting to speak having no more than five minutes of discussion time.
Thus far, a meeting was held on March 15 with the project review committee on the retail space formerly the Clothing Boutique.
The findings of the place to be known as The Vault Wine Bar were “physically suitable for the type of development,” “compatible with adjoining land uses,” and “consistent with the zone district in which it is located,” according to the report by Director of Planning Ken Zuidervaart.
He pointed out that changing the space – next door to Las Consuelas Mexican Restaurant & Bar and a few spaces from the Ripon Roadhouse – into a wine bar does slightly increase the parking demand to six more parking spots.
“The important item to note with this evaluation is that parking demand assumes the worse-case scenario for parking needs. More simply said, is that every business in the downtown district would have to be full and open at the same time to require this type of parking demand,” Zuidervaart added.
John Mangelos is the owner of the building. Kara Bogetti and Merissa Deming are listed as the applicants for The Vault Wine Bar.
