TURLOCK AP) — Police in Northern California have shot and killed a man suspected of fatally shooting two women.

Turlock police spokeswoman Myra Lewis tells the Merced Sun-Star that the suspect was shot by officers and Merced County sheriff’s deputies near a motel Saturday morning.

The Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that deputies responding to a 911 call of shots fired arrived Friday night to find two women dead at a home in a remote area outside Turlock.

The suspect was found and fatally shot about nine hours later.

Authorities did not say whether the man was armed or fired at officers or deputies before he was shot.

The names, ages and relationships of the suspects and victims were not immediately released.
