LIVERMORE – Minneapolis-based music and dance group Rhythmic Circus brings their off-Broadway hit show “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!” to the Bankhead Theater at the end of March.

A dynamic tap and music performance that mixes hard-hitting percussive dance with a live rock band, the show’s wildly creative approach to entertainment has enthralled audiences of all ages with its upbeat medley of positive messages and infectious rhythm. Described as an “exuberant, toe-tapping, hand-clapping hour-and-a-half” by Theatermania, Rhythmic Circus’ “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!” will fill the Bankhead Theater stage on Friday, March 31.

Rhythmic Circus’ four dancers combine rapid-fire tapping talent with the big, brass sound, funky styling, and original lyrics of their seven-piece band. Together with The Human Beatbox, vocal percussionist Aaron “Heatbox” Heaton, they earned the show a “Spirit of the Fringe” Award at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. From clear a cappella singing and music inspired by a front-porch jam session, to a percussive chair routine and a fast-paced colorful marching band-themed number, “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!” is a genre-hopping  combination of rock, blues and soul.

“We created ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!’ out of the desire to get people back in touch with the spirit of celebration. The show helps remind our audiences that there is always a reason to get up, let go and dance,” said co-creator and executive director Nick Bowman. “The name of our show comes from an old New Orleans chant dating back to the early 1900’s – a time when the city was rich with culture and spirit, they literally had parades every Sunday just to celebrate their lives and community. Rhythmic Circus has adopted the chant as more of a rallying cry. We have been ecstatic to see it strike a chord with people everywhere from our home town to Off-Broadway and all the way across the globe,” Bowman added.

Although the group officially began in 2007, core members had been collectively performing together since 2000. “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now” premiered in August 2008 and has since toured internationally, including a 25-show run at the New Victory Theatre in New York City.

Under Bowman and artistic director Ricci Milan, Rhythmic Circus remains true to its mission to provide inspirational experiences for all age groups and cultural backgrounds through a blend of theatre, music and dance. The company will offer an educational outreach program sharing their skills and talents with local students prior to the show through support from the California Arts Council; WESTAF, the Western States Arts Federation; and the National Endowment for the Arts. Rhythmic Circus’ evening performance has been sponsored in part by a generous donation from Jean King.

Tickets for Rhythmic Circus “Feet Don’t Fail Me Now!” on March 31 are available now through the Bankhead Theater ticket office at 2400 First Street in Livermore, by calling (925) 373-6800, or online at www.lvpac.org
