Eleanor Waters doesn’t mind following in the footsteps of her sisters.

The Ripon High junior is this year’s student representative to the Ripon Unified school board. About two years ago, her oldest sister Ruth Waters sat at that very seat alongside elected officials.

Eleanor, or Elie – “It’s a nickname,” she said – was elected to the post last spring by the RHS student body.

“I’m looking forward to sharing the input of the students (to the school board),” Eleanor Waters said following Monday’s board meeting inside the City of Ripon Council Chambers.

She’ll be administered the oath of office at next month’s meeting.

Part of her duties will be to provide for board deliberations while strengthening communications between the board and students.

As a representative of students, Waters will be able to facilitate discussions of all side of an issue, including the right to provide her individual opinion.

She’s the daughter of Shelly and Manteca Fire Chief Kirk Waters.

Besides Ruth (Class of 2013), who will begin her second year at Stevens Institute of Technology – she plays basketball for the NCCA Division II Ducks – Eleanor has sister Abigail Waters (Class of 2014), who will soon be attending UCLA.

Ruth and Abigail were valedictorians for their respective classes at RHS.
