Ben Cantu gets points for being eager.

The mayoral hopeful’s signs have been going up around Manteca for the past three weeks. In doing so, he has nabbed some of the best spots in the best locations.

Cantu gets points for adhering to the city’s rules regarding temporary political signs.

Who doesn’t get points is lawyer Gary Hickey, the unsuccessful candidate in June in the race to become San Joaquin County’s next district attorney. Some of his signs are still up around Manteca some seven weeks after the election. City rules require they be taken down within seven days after election day unless they were successful in the primary and qualified for the general election.
