STOCKTON – An RBI triple by Trenton Bardonner and an RBI double by Dennis Crum in the second inning sparked the Northgate Dodgers to an early lead they would not relinquish Friday over the Spreckels Park Tigers as Northgate claimed the championship banner of the District 67 Juniors Tournament of Champions at Paul E. Weston Park. 

Zach McCasland was 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Dodgers. Crum was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Justin Mount was 2 for 2 with a run. Nate Rodriguez added a double. 

Danny Peters pitched until the next-to-last out for Northgate and struck out three. McCasland got the final out for the save.  

Zach Fonseca was 2 for 3 for the Tigers and Brycen Diego was 1 for 2 with a double. Mikey Elder and Justin Bretao each stole two bases and scored one run.

Sonny Elder went the distance on the hill for Spreckels Park and struck out six. 

 

Majors

Spreckels Park Giants 15,

Salida Dodgers 5 (5) 

TRACY – Noah Aguirre of the Giants belted a two-run double that capped off an eight-run fifth inning Saturday to end the opening-round contest via the mercy rule for the win Saturday at Legacy Fields.

Zac Cook led the potent Giants offense, going 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBI. Kainoa Ontai was 2 for 3 with a double, Sante Duarte 2 for 4 with two RBI, a double and a triple and Caliyann Craig added a two-run home run.

Fred Taylor and Adrien Aguirre each had an RBI triple for the Spreckels Park and Alex Gatty an RBI double. 

Spreckels Park faces Tracy National on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal contest. 

 

Patterson Dodgers 8, 

Manteca Giants 2

The Giants did not get a hit until the sixth inning when they scored two runs. 

Landon Chamberlain led off the Giants sixth with a single followed by Jojo Brizuela’s double. Brizuela came in to score on a double by Bryan Lopez and Lopez advanced to third on Michael George’s single and Lopez made it home on an error. 

Manteca faces Mountain House today at 5:30 p.m. in a consolation game. 

 

Northgate Cubs 2, 

Mountain House 1

Northgate got its runs in the second inning.

Nick Ridgewell started the Northgate second with a triple and came in on a triple by Carson Sanders (2 for 2, RBI, double, triple). Alijah Salas singled to score Sanders and Northgate pitching took over from there.

Zachary Grabowski pitched three shutout innings for Northgate, striking out five. innings striking out 5 batters and keeping Mountain House off the bases. Ivan Alvarez added three strikeouts, Ridgewell one Ivan Vieria came in to close the game out, striking out the last three batters. 

 Ivan Alvarez was 2 for 2 with a double. 

The Cubs play Patterson in a quarterfinal game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. 

 

Minors

Spreckels Park Orioles 5, 

Northgate Orioles 2

In the battle of the birds in second-round action at Brock Elliott School on Sunday, Collins Schluer of Northgate and Wyatt Bauer of Spreckels Park turned in outstanding pitching performances but four Northgate errors led to four Spreckels Park runs and that proved to be the difference in the game.

Jackson Fay started the game off with a walk for Spreckels Park, stole second, and came home on a single by Bauer. That was the only earned run Northgate pitching gave up. Anthony Grady tripled for Spreckels Park and came home to score when the throw to third was off the mark. 

Northgate scored all of its runs in the first inning. Schluer was hit by a pitch, George Mendoza walked and both came into score on a single by Hunter Canaday. 

Schluer pitched the last 4.1 innings, striking out 11 including a pair of 1-2-3 innings and allowing just one hit. Bauer pitched 3.2 innings, striking out six and allowing two hits. Fay relieved Bauer to close out the game, striking out four in 1.2 innings. 

Spreckels Park faces Manteca on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on Field 1 in a quarterfinal contest and Northgate and Patterson face off in an elimination game today at 5:30 p.m. on Field 1. 

 

Northgate Orioles 7, 

Mountain House Blue Jays 5

The Orioles were a strike away from a trip to the consolation bracket Saturday when Schluer roped a two-out, two-strike pitch for a three-run home run to make the score 6-5. Schluer faced the last four batters of the game and struck out all four. 

Cash Lee walked and Brady Alves reached base on catcher’s interference ahead of Schluer’s inside the park four-bagger down the left-field line. 

Schluer, Lee, Canady, George Mendoza and Schluer combined to strike out 15 batters. Schluer was 2 for 3 with three RBI, a double, home run, and two runs. Mendoza tripled, had two RBI a run and a walk, Canady had an RBI and Alves (1 for 2) and Lee (1 for 3, two walks) had two runs each. 

 

Manteca Marlins 11, 

Tracy National 1

Eliseo Cervantez, Isiah Alococer and Isaac Acuna combined to two-hit Tracy on Saturday, striking out 14 including nine of the last 11 batters. 

Cervantez was 3 for 3 with a triple, run and a walk and Acuna was 2 for 3 with a run and a walk.

Manteca faces Spreckels Park Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. on Field 1 in a quarterfinal game.
