Joe Gumm

Joe Gumm, 85, went home to be with his Lord on June 1, 2014 in Manteca. He was born on April 20, 1929 to the late William and Faye Gumm in Seminole, Oklahoma.

Mr. Gumm is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Wanda Gumm. His children are Jack Gumm (Sherry) and Gary Gumm (Debbie). He was blessed with his many grandchildren, David (Tara), Jennifer (Jared), Steven, Scott (Andrea), Nicole (Paul) and Sean. He adored his great-grandchildren; Jack, Faith, Sophia, Ayden, Christian and Ryan.

Joe was a resident of Manteca for 61 years. He proudly served his country through the United States Army-National Guard and retired after 31 years as a Sargent First Class. Joe volunteered for the Manteca Police Department as a reserve; receiving an award in 1974 as reserve officer of the year. A cowboy at heart, Joe loved to visit the historical sites of the “old west” and was a life-member of the Death Valley 49’ers. A devout Christian he was a faithful member of Cornerstone Community Church in Manteca. Some of his hobbies after retirement were cutting wood for crafters in the area, golfing and attending sporting events where he supported his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe loved his family unconditionally as he always felt extremely blessed to have such a wonderful family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
