In this her 10th year in the Sierra volleyball program, Timberwolves coach Trinity Johnson is looking to improve on last year’s 1-13 Valley Oak League record – 3-19 overall – and she is not afraid to think outside the box to do it.

“We are shaking things up this year,” Johnson said. “I am excited to see what this group will produce.”

Johnson is pleased with the balance of returning varsity players and those coming up from the sophomore squad.

“I am confident with the group of girls we have returning,” Johnson said. “Hopefully they will be able to influence the incoming juniors.”

Kristen Maestretti, Morgan Willis, Tayler Moss, Olivia Higby and Madison English are the returning varsity players with Brianna Padua, Carolina Ortega, Cecilia Salcedo, Megan Westfall, Jenny Anderson, Julie DeAnda and Bela Carter looking for their first varsity experience.

“We are confident in everyone’s ability,” Johnson said.

With Sonora out of the VOL and Central Catholic in, Johnson is looking forward to the change.

“I haven’t Central Catholic play or heard much about them,” Johnson said. “But I think change is good and mixing up the league will hopefully shake up the standings.”

Sierra plays its first tune-up for league Sept. 3 at home against Chavez.
