STOCKTON — Manuel Rubio pitched out of an early jam and later helped his cause with an RBI triple, as Weston Ranch blew past host Stagg 7-2 on Tuesday for its third consecutive win.
Rubio finished with five strikeouts in five innings pitched. Stagg (1-2) was able to get its two runs off of reliever Amier Bowen in the bottom of the seventh.
Weston Ranch improved to 4-2.
“Manuel Rubio had his struggles but did what Manuel does,” Weston Ranch coach David Hager said. “We’ve been blessed to have him for four years.”
Larry Martinez sparked the offense, reaching three times on two hits and a beanball. He also stole two bases and plated a pair of runs.
“Larry is on fire,” Hager said. “I can’t say enough about him. He just plays the game the right way.”
