East Union was held to two hits but was rewarded for its patience at the plate in a 3-1 win over visiting Atwater on Wednesday.

The Lancers (5-2) plated all of their runs in the third. Jake Harries led off a bases-loaded rally with a walk and stole second. Gyse Hulsebosch later drove him in with one of the club’s few knocks. Brayden Hardcastle and Fernando Segura drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to end it.

Segura also pitched a complete game, striking out nine while surrendering five hits and two walks. The Falcons (0-5) scored their only run in the second inning on a squeeze play.

“Fernando was very solid from the mound,” East Union coach Dan Triglia said. “He didn’t have all his stuff working but he just battled and grinded it out, and we played good enough defense behind him to keep their runs limited.”

Manteca 6, Escalon 1

ESCALON — Winning pitcher Kyle Rachels and Andrew Brunn combined for a two-hitter, and Manteca (6-2) handed Escalon (7-1) its first loss of the season with a well-rounded effort.

The Buffaloes plated two runs in the top of the first and never trailed from there. Joel Olmos finished 3 for 5 with two runs, and Gino Campiotti went 3 for 4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Alex Gouveia (RBI) and Ferrin Manuleleua (double) were each 2 for 4.

“Great to see new guys stepping up this game,” Manteca coach Neil MacDannald said, also giving a nod to left fielder Gerson Gomez and Olmos in center field for making spectacular defensive plays. “Really proud of these guys. You have to play really well to beat a team like Escalon. They play hard and are well coached.”

Ripon 9, Deer Valley 4

ANTIOCH — Colby Bacon (two runs), Donny Cooksey (two runs, RBI) and Carson Henry (run, RBI) all went 2 for 4, and Jack Mayer (three strikeouts, three walks) pitched a two-hitter for Ripon (5-2-2).
