Reyes signs with Holy Names

Josie Reyes is joined by her parents, Jesus and Maria Reyes, as she signs on to play soccer next fall for the Holy Names Hawks of the NCAA Division II PacWest Conference.

Jocelyn ‘Josie’ Reyes has been a part of some memorable moments during her time with the Manteca High girls’ soccer program.

Included was the program’s first-ever Sac-Joaquin Section Division III championship banner, beating Rio Americano in a 6-5 shootout last spring.

Now, she’s looking to make new memories.

The MHS senior signed a letter of intent Thursday to play soccer for Holy Names University in Oakland.

She’ll play center midfielder for the NCAA Division II Hawks of the Pac West Conference.

“I looked at other schools but I liked the environment (at Holy Names),” Reyes said.

She was joined on her big day by her coaches – included was Buffaloes coach Justin Coenenberg – administrators, family, teammates and friends in the school library.

“I’m thankful to them, especially my parents (Jesus and Maria Reyes) for their support through my journey,” Josie Reyes said.

She also acknowledged coach Keith Coleman of the Elite Soccer Academy 209 / San Juan South.

Another MHS athlete is attending Holy Names.

Not too long ago, Haighley Kissee, Reyes’ classmate and a pitcher for the Buffaloes, inked her letter to play softball for the Hawks.
