RIPON — The final Ripon Christian point of the night Monday happened the same way better than one in four did throughout the evening – on a Paige Vos kill.
Vos tallied 25 kills along with six digs and an ace to lead the Knights to a 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 25-16 Southern League win over visiting Le Grand, avenging a four-game loss to the Bulldogs from their Sept. 13 meeting.
Ripon Christian (7-2 SL, 8-13 overall) is now alone in second place, trailing Orestimba by two matches.
“I think we started out a little slow,” Vos said. “We didn’t play our game right away but once we got in our groove we definitely picked it up.
“I think we played great toward the end.”
The Bulldogs (6-3, 11-11) kept it close in the fourth set while trailing 14-12 until, lead Mackenzie Miller (nine kills, two aces) hammered a kill and followed that with a six-point service run that put the deciding game out of reach.
According to Knights coach Jocelyn Benziger, if her team is having fun they will play better.
“We are working on being able to have fun out there,” Benziger said. “They are really bright kids, so sometimes they want to analyze or maybe even over analyze the game trying to make themselves better.
“So sometimes they forget to do what their body knows to do and that is have fun which is what they were doing at the end.”
With Vos patrolling the net, libero Bethany Silveira was dominating the floor with 22 digs.
“My team circling around me really helped,” Silveira said. “I wouldn’t be able to do it without them helping me.
“Knowing they have my back really comforts me. With this team it’s just about us having fun and that’s how we play our game.”
Megan Bos (10 kills) and Renae Heida (six kills) both had an ace and they were set up by Taylor Alger who dished out a whopping 55 assists.
“We did really well at moving our feet tonight,” Alger said. “They were able to move to get me the ball with nice passes.”
