MOUNTAIN HOUSE — Fresh off her MVP effort in the Lathrop girls basketball team’s run to the Delta Queens Classic championship, Myani Thornton tallied 22 points, eight rebounds and three steals on Monday to pace the surging Spartans to a 62-47 win over reigning Trans-Valley League champion Mountain House.

It was a rematch of their Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoff opener won by Lathrop, 57-48. The Spartans (4-1) have now won four straight after dropping their first game of the season at Cosumnes Oaks.

“We’re focused right now,” Lathrop coach Dwayne Davis said. “Our first game we had a turnover fest, and I think we were not quite ready to start the season. Now we think we can play with anybody.

Lathrop did it once again with defense and a balanced scoring while registering a season-low 10 turnovers. Khiya Thornton contributed 12 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Semaj Steen added 11 points and 11 rebounds. Rylene Crull ended with eight points six boards.
