EU/s Rindel, Sierra’s Garcia claim titles of wrestling tournaments

LOS BANOS – East Union heavyweight Jaysen Reindel mowed his way through the competition Saturday in the Morning Star Invitational, pocketing the championship going 3-0 with three pins. 

Lancers teammate Joe Luna (138 pounds) was second and Tyler Diaz (120) was fifth.

Castro Valley Invitational

CASTRO VALLEY – Sierra’s Alexa Garcia (170) came into the tournament seeded No. 2, and showed the seeding committee the error of their ways. 

The Timberwolves sophomore won the championship and did so in dramatic fashion, winning all of her matches with first-round pins.

“She was seeded No. 2 and took it personal and displayed it on the mat,” Sierra coach Alex Nuanez said. “Alexa made quick work of her matches with all first-round pins with the championship match lasting 38 seconds.

“All the girls wrestled well and showed Timberwolves pride.”

Cami Jarden (116) and Cielol Angulo (121) were third for the Timberwolves and Abigail Ramirez (160) was sixth.

Pacheco Junior Varsity Round Robin

LOS BANOS – East Union twin brothers Garrett Galloway (145) and Connor Galloway (152) went undefeated and pinned their way to first place, with Garrett going 3-0 behind three pins and Connor getting four pins while going 4-0. 

Also placing for the Lancers were Brayan Franco (132) finishing first and Travis Leonard (126), Michael Hudson (126), Niles Lacang (170), and Martin Meezcue (170), all finishing third.

Fualaau Futi (189) was fourth in girls competition.

Escalon JV/Girls

Tournament

ESCALON – Five Manteca wrestlers placed first Saturday.

In Group A competition, Diego Rodriguez (113), Sumtal Safi (138) and Dominic Day (145) were all 3-0 and finished first. Going 3-0 and taking first in Group B were Dominik Neuharth (182) and Joseph Saylor (285). 

Enrique Sosa (145) was third place, going 2-1 and Azucena Rodriguez (116) took 3rd in Group A girls, finishing 1-2.
