STOCKTON — East Union was without two starters, but that didn’t stop the Lancers from tallying a season-high in points scored Thursday at Weston Ranch.

Destiny Torio and Julia Vezaldenos led four Lancers in double figures with 15 points apiece in the 75-47 victory. Weston Ranch (0-4, 2-14), which has dropped eight straight, did well to shake off a slow start but was dusted by a 23-5 third-quarter run for East Union (2-1, 8-6).

The Lancers made 22 of 28 free throws while three Weston Ranch players fouled out.

“The girls just played a really good game,” East Union coach Jim Agostini said. “They played aggressive, attacked the rim and got to the foul line a lot. The overall team effort was just excellent.”

East Union also racked up 18 assists and hit seven 3s. Vezaldenos made three of her four 3s in the first half and pulled down eight rebounds. Torio distributed five assists.

Kayla Montoya added 14 points and eight rebounds, Mariah James scored 10 points and Sarah Gloeckler pitched in eight points, five assists and five rebounds off the bench. Ten of 12 East Union players scored. Starting center Donja Payne and third-year guard Hailey Gosney were both out with ankle injuries.

The Cougars trailed 20-9 after the first quarter and cut the deficit down to five at one point in the second. Sophomore point guard Nia Boston scored 13 points all in the first half for Weston Ranch, but she was limited by foul trouble for a second straight game. Justice Stitt led the Cougars with 16 points and accounted for all five of their points in the third period.

Carley Maaske finished with 11 points to pace Oakdale (1-2, 8-7).

“It’s always tough going to Oakdale and getting the win,” Lathrop coach Dwayne Davis said. “They were a little bit bigger than us but we were quicker.”

Ripon 56,

MOUNTAIN HOUSE —  Reina Sausedo registered 26 points and nine rebounds to help the Indians (3-0, 12-3) came away with a big road win against the reigning Trans-Valley League champion.

Savannah Clark contributed eight points and eight rebounds for Ripon, while Mia Van Lewen pulled down 10 boards.

“They are the reigning champs and they are still one of the many teams to beat,” Ripon coach Rick Inderbitzin said. “I was very proud of our girls. They came ready to play. It was a playoff-type atmosphere.”

Hilmar 41,

Ripon Christian 31

HILMAR — Morgan Van Elderen pumped in 12 of her team-high 13 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to fully get Ripon Christian (2-2 TVL 10-8 overall) out of its offensive rut.
