Manteca High rolled past rival East Union in Thursday’s Valley Oak League tennis action, 7-2.

The host Lancers managed their wins in singles.

In this case, Matthew Vadachira defeated the Buffaloes’ No. 3 player Kevin Lin in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, and Tarunjit Singh, East Union’s No. 5 player, needed a tie-breaker to get past Nick Pio, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7.

“We were without our No. 5 singles player (out on a HOSA field trip) – so, Niko had to move into the singles ladder,” said MHS coach Frank Fontana.

Manteca dominated the rest of the action led by top singles player Soloman Aniss beating East Union’s Luis Tristan, 6-1, 6-0, and No. 2 player Kurtis Ma taking care of Matthew Trindad, 6-2, 6-2

Harshawn Singh, the Buffaloes’ No. 4 player, stopped Jeffin Abraham in two sets, 6-0, 6-1, while Niko Plares edged East Union’s No. 6 player Kelton DeSouza thanks to a tiebreaker, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4.

In doubles, Ravpreet Grewal and Kayson Neduvakkattu, Manteca’s top pair, took care of East Union’s Steven Chan and Isaac Diaz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.

“Rav and Kayson, our normal doubles team, played first doubles and played their best match of the season,” Fontana added.

The Buffaloes’ No. 2 team of Ryan Foo and Inderbir Sidhu did likewise to Matthew Mendoza and Daniel Ngo of the Lancers, 6-3, 6-3.

Weather permitting, Manteca is scheduled to play East Union again in a makeup match today.
