TRACY — Northgate Red put up 23 runs in the second inning Friday and coasted to a 32-9 four-inning mercy-shortened consolation quarterfinal win over Patterson in the District 67 9-10-year-old All-Star Tournament at Tracy Little League’s Legacy Fields.
Out of Northgate’s 25 hits, only two were for extra bases — a two-RBI triple by Quinn Martinez (2 for 4, two RBI, triple) and a two-RBI double by Hunter Canaday (3 for 5, four RBI, double). Once the contest was well in hand, Northgate played a station-to-station game, missing out on the opportunities for extra-base hits to keep the score down.
Collins Schluer led the Northgate hit parade, going 5 for 5 with four RBI and five runs followed by Blake Mount (five RBI) and D’Angelo Canela (three RBI) who were both 3 for 4 with four runs.
George Mendoza (2 for 2, four runs), Ryan Guibor (2 for 4, RBI, two runs) and Noah Navarro (3 for 5, four RBI) and Cash Lee (three runs) rounded out the Northgate attack.
Northgate plays Manteca Green this morning at 10 in the consolation semifinal. Manteca defeated Mountain House 6-2 Friday night in the other consolation quarterfinal game.
