Family: Rob Cox a hero, not murderer

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Yes, Rob Cox is my son-in-law, the husband of my daughter Julie, the father of two of my six grandchildren, a credentialed minister, Staff Pastor at Place of Refuge Church, my right arm in the annual Memorial Day event at Woodward, and my hero.

Were it not for his quick and decisive response to a totally unprovoked attack in Vegas, nearly one year ago, he or one of my family members or a student would have possibly been killed. When a person – in this case a 6-foot-8, 360-pound man – attacks you, threatens to kill you, knocks unconscious one of your students, and hits you in the face, all with no warning, the “Stand Your Ground” law comes into full play.

It’s tragic by any measure, a man is dead. But there is no one to blame for this senseless death except for the attacker, who by the way had six shots and two beers in the space of 30 minutes. The group was in the restaurant side of the building the entire evening and no one had anything to drink except soft drinks. It all came down in less than 30 seconds, according to the security video.

Rob should be given a community award for heroism. Instead Vegas DA issues a no-bail warrant: “Fugitive from the law, premeditated murder with malice.” Lies, all lies. What drives this? Political? The DA is running for office. Christian/pastor bias? Let’s make an example of this pastor. Family connections to the police or DA? There is clear evidence to that possibility. After more than $100,000 spent, grief, embarrassment, suffering, and the prospect of a full blown jury trial, one can only pray common sense and truth will save the day. I appreciated the prayers and support of our amazing community and church.

Pastor Mike Dillman

By the way 75, did you not read the piece by the Editor about screen names?
"John Hancock did not hide behind a fake screen name" If it apparently applies to Crd, then it must apply to you as well, correct?

75... I was merely stating a fact...did Dillman not head up the protest against the Free Thinkers group at the Library?

Crimeriddendum, after going through your other blogs and comments you seem to be a very angry, spiteful person. How about a new hobby? Maybe get outside and take a walk? Donate your time to a favorite charity? Perhaps some therapy would be helpful. There’s definitely some deeper issues there. Anonymously taking your anger out on people behind your computer in your mother’s basement isn’t healthy. My two cents.

If Mr. Cox’s defense attorney is on his game, he is advising his client to keep certain facts close to the chest. So take a deep breath, crimeriddendump, have a seat, you seem a bit obsessed with the case but I’m sure all your questions will be answered in due time. I guarantee this is not the aggressor’s first altercation and I have a feeling the facts will prove Mr. Cox innocent. Real men defend those weaker than themselves, which is what it appears, to rational thinking people, happened in this case. Unfortunately justice sometimes takes a while and can be quite costly to those forced to prove their innocence. It’s a shame.

I’m also not sure why Pastor Dillman deserves to be slandered and harassed with cheap shots in the comment sections of these articles by folks such as crimeriddendump and LarryBaca. I do not go to his church but I have been to the Memorial Day event he puts on as well as the annual Patriot Day BBQ he does for our police and fire departments on 9/11. He is a passionate person who loves our country and our city. He’s always been kind to myself and my family. I’m sure this whole ordeal has been very difficult for him and his family as well as their church. I hope for all involved this is resolved quickly and Mr. Cox’s good name is cleared.

At this point I don't know if Mr. "We will gladly walk you to your car" has much credibility given his actions at the Free Thinkers meetings at the City Library, so lets wait on the evidence before we make anybody a "hero".

What award should Cox get for taking youth to a las Vegas bar at midnight??
Also, given Dillman's past incidents of violent outbursts, he is in awkward position to judging reactions to violence here. What if the victim of PTSD as Dillman so often blames for his violent outbursts?

Another point: how much of that money belongs to the "church" and how much was part of Dillman and Cox substantial salary?

Let's wait and see what the video has to say. Thankfully, the same DA that put away OJ Simpson will be in charge rather than the "Good Ol' Boys" at the San Joaquin County DA that turn blind eyes to obvious video evidence.

Please wait ...
