Editor, Manteca Bulletin,
Regarding the article on the “advantages” of having a “hospitalist” in charge of your care while you are in the hospital: Advantage to whom?
It’s certainly not the patient. You have never seen this person, this person has no history with you, and yet he, or she, is now in charge of your care while you are obviously so ill you are in the hospital.  My husband was recently a patient at Doctor’s Hospital in Manteca and was seen by 2 different hospitalists.  What a joke and disservice to the patient.  When I asked one of them the results of my husband’s procedure he had done the day before, he did not have a clue.  I said, “Are the results not on his chart?” and he replied, “Oh, I didn’t read his chart”.  I was dumbfounded,
I asked why he had not even read my husband’s chart, (keep in mind this is the only doctor he would see that day) and he said he forgot.  Please, these gentlemen have such a caseload they can’t possibly keep up and what a disservice to patients this is. Another patient in the hospital at the same time, shared their thoughts with me regarding their care and they were the same as ours.  I say Kudos to Dr. Wolf and Dr. Croasdale!  Shame on you other doctors who turn over their patients to a stranger who is overworked and totally unfamiliar with your patient’s history and what put them in the hospital in the first place.
