It seems like Disney’s Lion Kings circle of life is real. This came to light for me this morning when I was researching the Our Gang shorts. With racial divides that seem to come and go, the last eight years I have seen a huge divide. This makes me unhappy.
So, here’s the deal.
What we need is a new “Our Gang” both in Washington, and especially in Sacramento. That childhood series was ground breaking. It produced the first Black Hollywood star. The producers of the series were color blind. The basis of the show was to show children doing things that children do as children, before any learned social behaviors interfere with the one life we have. It was pretty darned simple.
When I was in the Army, we were all green. We had to rely on each other so all of us could get home alive. Now today in civilian life this is even more true. If we don’t help each other out, we all loose. It is not tit for tat. The reward is far greater than something tangible for sure. Try it. It feels great.
That is why I volunteer at the Livermore V.A. Hospital once a week. Try it yourself. It feels great. If you want to find out what your freedom actually cost, go to a Veterans Hospital and volunteer. My first day was life changing.
Our Gang, who knew?
