MLL Brewers win slugfest

The Brewers scored four runs in the top of the seventh and held on for a 15-12 extra-inning win Monday over the Yankees in Manteca Little League major division elimination game at Lincoln Park. 

Connor Navarro had the big bat for the Brewers, going 2 for 3 with a three-run home run, double, three runs and two walks. Colton Mutillo was 4 for 4 with a walk and two runs, Andrew Maki went 3 for 3 with a walk and three runs and Micah English was 2 for 4 with a walk and a run. 

Junior Pelicas (2 for 4, walk, home run) and Wyatt DeFrenchi (2 for 2, two walks, home run) both hit their first home runs of the season for the Yankees with DeFrenchi’s being a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth to put the Yankees ahead 11-10 and Pelicas hitting his in the bottom of the seventh for the last run of the game. 

Rex Watson was 3 for 5 with a double and three runs for the Yankees and Rafael Aguilar was 2 for 2 with a triple, three runs and a walk. 

The Brewers face the Giants at 5:30 p.m. today.

 

Manteca minors

A’s 8, Marlins 7

The Marlins scored six runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 7-all and the A’s got one on the bottom of the inning for the win.  

Dylan Stonum, Jace Quitasol and Brandon Abernathy combined to total 14 strikeouts for the A’s. 

Abernathy (triple) and Ezekiel Sugura were both 2 for 3 with a double and a run. Quitasol (1 for 2, walk) had two runs and Maddoz Melendez (1 for 3) scored once.

Isaac Alococer, Isaac Acuna and Cole Martin totaled six strikeouts for the Marlins. Martin (walk, two doubles) and Anthony Jiminez were both 2 for 3 and Acuna was 1 for 1 with three walks and a run. 

On Wednesday, the Marlins play the winner of tonight’s Cubs-Rangers game and the A’s are scheduled to play Thursday. 

 

Spreckels Park majors

Giants 12, Pirates 2

Kainoa Ontai, Zac Cook and Sante Duarte held the Pirates to just three hits while striking out 10 on Sunday at Brock Elliott School.

Ontai led off the Giants half of the first with a home run. Duarte singled in Cook in both the first and second innings and plated Cook again in the fourth inning, this time with a home run. Kyle Bagley singled in Fred Taylor in the third and the Giants scored six runs in the fifth inning on doubles by Ontai, Duarte, Noah Aguirre and Taylor. 

The Giants play in the championship game tonight at 5:30 p.m.
