RIPON – Jonathan Castenada scored on a 4-yard run for East Union early in the second quarter and that was the lone touchdown of the game as the Lancers defeated Ripon 6-0 in non-league freshman football action on Thursday at Stouffer Field.

Two big fourth-quarter plays helped East Union hold on for the win. With 8:40 left in the game, the Indians’ Aaron Wood intercepted a pass deep in Lancers territory and was on his way to tying the game when Lancers lineman Fernando Ambriz made a touchdown-saving tackle deep in Ripon territory. The Indians were unable to capitalize.

With less than a minute remaining in the game and facing fourth down and 2 yards to go for a first, East Union quarterback Ryland Toves (six carries, 30 yards) ran a naked bootleg to get the first down and keep the ball in Lancers hands.

Anthony Corrales was the workhorse for East Union, gaining 218 yards on 15 carries. The Lancers defense was dominating, allowing 59 total yards.

Lane Cefalu made eight tackles for the Lancers. Castaneda added six, Toves four and Justin Mount three.

Nicolas scored twice and Victor Martinez, Calvin Ramsay and Jesus Gonzalez also scored for the Buffaloes.

Aiden Twigs,  Jerry Walser, Dominic Neuharth, and David Vega played well on defense for Manteca with each netting multiple tackles for loss
