The newest Dodge Charger R/T conjures up memories of the 1970s Muscle Car era.
But the 2011 model also combines performance with good gas mileage thanks to the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine. That’s 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet torque. As for fuel efficiency, the Charger R/T – an acronym for road and track edition – gets an estimated 25 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg in the city.
Need a boost? This Dodge is capable of going from 0 to 60 in 5.4 seconds.
The Charger R/T is available at Cabral Motors, 1145 W. Yosemite Ave., Manteca.
There are some noticeable differences with the latest incarnation of the Charger to that of the muscle cars from years past, according to sales rep. Adam Cardona.
He’s been at the Manteca dealership for the past two years and, before that, at Stockton for 10 years.
Cardona pointed out at the front grille of the Charger that closely resembles the Dodge 300.
“It’s the same style (as the 300 or 200) where it leans forward for aerodynamics,” he said.
Aerodynamics also includes the rear spoiler of the Charger R/T, which is a four-door rather than a two-door sedan.
The Dodge Charger also comes with high-performance suspension and 20-inch tires.
Inside, Cardona displayed some craftsmanship consisting of stitched leather and suede seats for design and comfort. From the cockpit, the Charger R/T, which is also roomy, has telescopic and up-and-down steering column along with an 8.4-inch touch screen equipped with a Garmin navigation system coupled with a rear back-up camera and SIRIUS Travel Link.
“Push a (Travel Link) button and you can get the nearest gas station with real-time fuel prices, restaurants, and even sports updates,” Cardona said.
