TRACY – Just because you drive a car that gets great gas mileage doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice things like style or space.

The Nissan Cube – which became an immensely popular option during the “Cash for Clunkers” trade-in event – has become a top choice for younger buyers who are looking for affordability and efficiency while still maintaining a sense of personal expression.

With room for four adults in a configuration that includes adequate rear leg room and head clearance as well as back seats that recline, it’s easy to see why the Cube – which can average as much as 37 miles per gallon while on the freeway – is such a hot commodity.

“This is a car that was a popular choice by people during ‘Cash for Clunkers’ and it has been really a top pick in the college market,” Tracy Nissan Sales Associate Tom King said. “It’s a car that gives you great gas mileage while still giving you space and comfort and the ability to express your style.”

While the 1.8-liter Nissan engine will provide fuel-efficiency for those who climb behind the wheel, the inclusion of a timing chain rather than the traditional belt gives drivers the added bonus of not needing a scheduled tune-up until the odometer rolls past 105,000 miles.

The continuously variable transmission provides smoother shifting while both on the freeway and in-town, and the large one-piece doors are more stable than the welded or pieced-together components that other manufacturers use and provides a quieter ride thanks to the tight seal it maintains even after prolonged mileage.

But it’s the extras that help make the Cube something that appeals to younger buyers who don’t want to sacrifice the ability to express themselves.

Interior lighting under the dashboard can be set to one of 20 available colors, and the unique interior design is also available with a six-speaker Rockford Fosgate sound system that includes an amplifier as well as available XM Satellite Radio while providing an auxiliary input jack for your iPod or MP3 player.

Safety is also a standard feature thanks to the six standard airbags that come with all 2009 models – boasting enhanced safety features like standard vehicle dynamic control and a traction control system that enable the vehicle to smartly react to possibly dangerous situations and respond accordingly.

It’s the range of features and the perks, King says, that keeps interest going on the lot.

“I had a guy come in this morning that was 6-foot-4 – he climbed in and still had three inches of headroom,” King said. “You take that and everything else this has and the starting price point and compare it to everything else out there and it’s easy to see the value and the quality that the Cube brings to the table.”
