DJ Singh is all about lifestyle.

And when he recognized that the lifestyle center known as the Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley at the 120 Bypass and Union Road was badly lacking in the restaurant category, he figured he’d do something about it.

So he opened his own.

Starting next week, Pete’s Restaurant and Brewhouse will be serving up some of the freshest food in town – handpicked by the small chain’s owner from its distributors – as well as more than two dozen beers from local Northern California brewhouses.

Singh’s native Turlock is represented with the Dust Bowl Brewery. San Francisco is represented with the Anchor Steam Brewery. Firestone Walker – a Paso Robles brewery in which the restaurant has an exclusive contract – is represented.

When all of those things are wrapped up with the unique approach that the restaurant takes to its food, Pete’s – which operates 10 locations in the Sacramento area as well as one in Chico – is sure to become a hit with customers craving something tasty and something new.

“I think that it’s a dedication to freshness that people really enjoy and what keeps them coming back,” Singh said. “We don’t just use any produce when it comes to cooking up what we serve – we go out and pick the things that we want to see in our food. All of our chicken is free range and our beef is grass fed and that helps make it taste that much better.

“And you have the whole open kitchen feel where customers can see that their food isn’t just sitting under a heat lamp. I don’t believe in those, and I don’t think that customers should expect to have their food artificially heated before they eat. This restaurant will be all about quality.”

There are a host of other perks as well. The entire menu is available for delivery for those who are tired for the same old choices. Diverse options are available, and a family-friendly atmosphere makes it the perfect kind of place for people who are stopping in after a trip to the movies or unwinding after a long day at the ballpark up the street.

In fact, it’s capturing that family audience that Singh was looking to do when crafting the layout and coming up with something that was something much more than just a joint for craft beer enthusiasts – even though it is still very much that.

“When you think of this shopping center you think of families and that’s what we wanted to keep in mind when we came up with something,” he said. “If you like beer you’ll like what we have to offer, but it’s a safe place where you can bring your kids and enjoy a meal. That’s really what this is all supposed to be about – it’s a lifestyle center.”

Pete’s Restaurant and Brewhouse is located at 881 Lifestyle Street inside of the Promenade Shops at Orchard Valley shopping center. The restaurant delivers everything on its menu, and offers a pickup window behind the restaurant for those who prefer that option. It is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight with hopes of holding hours of 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The restaurant will have a soft opening on Monday, Oct. 27, for customers who want to come in and try out their menu items before a big grand opening celebration that is still being planned.
