WEST SACRAMENTO — Raley’s Supermarkets marked its 80th year on Sunday.

Thomas P. Raley opened his first store on Main Street in Placerville on Feb. 16, 1935. He advertised it as “the nation’s first drive-in market.” So began what has become known as Raley’s Family of Fine Stores, a now-integral part of many California and Northern Nevada communities.

Today, with 128 stores and approximately 13,000 employees, customer service remains a priority, along with providing busy, health-conscious families with delicious, easy meal ideas at an everyday value.

“My family and I are proud of how the company has grown over the last eight decades, and proud that we continue to provide high-quality, fresh and local products and exceptional customer service – just like my grandfather set out to do in 1935,” said Mike Teel, Raley’s President and CEO.

Raley’s 80th anniversary coincides with a renewed company-wide commitment to the wellness and sustainability of surrounding communities by partnering with local farmers to ensure customers can get the best, fresh products, and local food banks through the Food For Families program.

Raley’s is a privately owned, family operated supermarket chain with headquarters in West Sacramento, California. The company operates 128 stores in Northern California and Nevada under four banners: Raley’s, Bel Air Markets, Nob Hill Foods and Food Source.

Raley’s was founded in 1935 by Tom Raley and is best known for high quality products, fresh produce, fine meats and outstanding customer service. Raley’s strives to make its customers’ lives easier and better by delivering a personalized food shopping experience. For more information, visit www.raleys.com
