OAKDALE – Nick and Alan Berg are part of the dedicated staff at Steves Chevrolet Buick.

Their connections go beyond the job. Nick and Alan are also closed-knit brothers.

“We get along so well that if we didn’t work together we probably would see each other,” Nick Berg said Wednesday at the Oakdale dealership located at 1285 East F St.

Alan Berg is the fleet manager there. He has 23 years experience on that very lot.

“Alan and our dad started about the same time,” recalled Nick Berg, who joined the Steves Chevrolet Buick family a year later.

Since 1974, Steves has been providing quality new and used cars, trucks, and SUVs. The Bergs favor the ownerships’ one-customer-at-a-time way of doing things.

They also prefer the “no turnover” sales system, which means that the customer will never be handed off to a closer or have to talk to a manager about the “real” price.

The two brothers get many repeat customers. Alan Berg, 44, is the fleet managers and handles those businesses needing multiple vehicles.

Nick Berg, 49, is a salesman with 22 years of experience. He knows of the quality of each vehicles backed by the support of the service department.

“When people buy (a car) here they know they’ll we will take care of them,” Nick Berg said.

The service department, he noted, is honest and on top of the routine maintenance schedule for each customers.

At Steves, they have product knowledge on the Malibu, Impala, Camaro, Suburban, Equinox, Traverse, Sonic and Cruze, to name a few.

“Buicks are good or better than some of the luxury cars out there,” said Nick Berg, who used Lexus and Mercedes to do his comparisons.

Jeff Steves, who is one of the owners, likes what the brothers bring to the table.

 “If a customer needs something, they’re there to help out,” he said. “Both have a strong following (of customers).

“They have strong morals and ethics – you don’t last long in this business without that.”

The two brothers grew up in Napa, but also lived in the Monterey area and Scotts Valley near Santa Cruz.

But Oakdale has been their home for over 20 years.

The Bergs’ roots with Chevrolet goes back a long way. Their grandfather and father, Steve Berg, worked years selling General Motor vehicles.

Nick and Alan are brothers who rely on one another. If one goes on vacation or needs the day off, the other is there to cover for him.

“They work as a team,” Jeff Steves added.
