Challenger is still a classic.

Born of muscle and raised on technology – so says Dodge of the 2013 model – this is the stuff of legends.

The latest incarnation of the Challenger maintains the retro look of 40 years ago but does so with 21st century technology.

Steves displayed the Rallye with the 3.6-litre dual overhead cam V6 24-valve variable valve timing engine with five-speed transmission, leather-trimmed bucket seats, rear body-color spoiler, dual rectangular exhaust tips, and the red hood-to-tail racing stripe.

The car came equipped with advanced multistage front airbags, supplemental side-curtain front and rear, front seat-mounted side airbags, and active head restraints among the safety features.

Electronic stability control, hill start assist, anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes, rain brake support, keyless go, and a Sentry Key theft-deterrent system was part of the Rallye package.

The instrument panel featuring the 140-mph primary speedometer echoed the classic Challenger.

But leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted audio control hooked up the Uconnect 130 AM/FM/CD/MP3 sound system equipped with audio jack input for mobile devices and the 12-volt center console power outlet is all 21st century technology.

Performance is where it counts.

Dodge says the Challenger has “intense handling dynamics and leading-edge components transfer hardcore power to the road, earning it serious street respect.”

This sporty car is sculpted with a lean, low profile and menacing throwback style.
