OAKDALE – Jay Bentley once dreaded coming to the work.

Back then, he was employed at a car dealership where people were looked upon simply as numbers and management constantly kept the pressure on him and his fellow sales representatives.

“After awhile, I was so fed up with it that I actually left the business,” Bentley said on Tuesday.

That changed once he came over to Steves Chevrolet Buick, 1285 E. F St. in Oakdale.

“It’s different here – I look forward to my job,” he said. “This is like family and everybody is treated with respect.”

Since 1974, Steves Chevrolet Buick has been providing quality new and used cars, trucks and SUVs at great prices. The motto here is “(doing) business the old fashion way, one customer at a time.”

The “no turnover” sales system means that a customer stays with the sales representative from beginning to end, and is never handed off to a closer or a manager.

“It’s easy going here and they’ll let you take the time to work with your customer,” said Bentley, who, as internet sales manager, came highly recommended to Steves back in 2007.

Part of his responsibilities as Internet sales manager is to handle e-mail from all customers and provide the necessary information.

Included is the much-anticipated arrival of the 2014 Silverado. “We just got one (on Monday),” said Bentley, who praised the new style, the improved fuel efficiency, and the extras that now come equipped on this Chevrolet truck.

He’s from Ceres and has plenty of knowledge on pickups.

“I grew up working with almonds and orchards,” Bentley said. “I know what (type of vehicle) farmers need.

“All ranchers and dairymen also have trucks.”

He also has high praises for the all-new Chevrolet Cruz and Eco. “The Cruz is now more comfortable while the Eco can get 50 miles per gallon,” Bentley said.

In addition, he’s looking forward to the arrival of the 2014 Chevrolet Impala and all-new Stingray Corvette scheduled for release at the end of the year.

“It so much fun coming to work,” Bentley said. “Places like this can be stressful, but Jeff (Steves, who’s part owner and operator of the dealership) has an open door policy and he’ll works with us.”
