Quality counts for used vehicles

For the past three years, Dave Webb has been in charge of used vehicles at Steves Chevrolet-Buick in Oakdale.

From buying inventory, appraising trade-ins, to managing the Internet site, the Oakdale product makes sure that quality remains the No. 1 priority.

“We’re very selective,” said Jeff Steves of his family-owned and operated business since 1974. “If a certain car doesn’t quite cut the mustard we will sell it elsewhere.”

He relies on expertise of his used car manager in the screening process.

Besides buying used cars at auctions, Webb is also in charge of getting the acquired vehicles ready for retail in what’s known as the reconditioning process.

He has a love and knowledge of General Motors products. Webb’s first car, at age 16, was a blue 1972 Chevy Malibu that belonged to his parents.

He has a love for hunting and fishing in the Sierra, and will chat it up with customers about his adventures in the high country – above Truckee – as well as Wyoming.

Prior to coming to Steves Chevrolet-Buick, Webb worked for about 11 years at Tradeway and Sexton Chevrolet in Manteca. He attracted many of his old customers once he moved to the Oakdale dealership.

That’s no surprise to Jeff Steves.

“Dave’s character is salt of the earth with a lot of integrity and dedication to the dealership,” he said.

Webb says that what he does is a “people business,” meaning he’s at work six days a week and, for the most part, working on average about 10 hours.

“I want to be able to meet and greet those people on the street and feel good about what I was able to do for them,” he said a few years ago.

Webb still holds true to those beliefs.
