Holy Week at St. Pauls

St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 910 E. North St., is offering a complete schedule of Holy Week worship.

• April 17, Sunday, 10 a.m.: Gather with the populace of Jerusalem at the city gates and rejoice in the peculiar parade of Jesus, King of the Jews, on a humble donkey.  They will begin in the fellowship hall and process into the sanctuary.

• April 20, Wednesday
, 6 p.m., Wednesday Night Light: St. Paul’s concludes the Wednesday Night Light Lenten Series with a meal and a witness of faith that began on Ash Wednesday.  

• April 21, Thursday
, 7 p.m., Maundy Thursday: The traditional Holy Week services starts with a skit about the 12 Disciples and Jesus. Worshippers are encouraged to remember Jesus’ humility and acts of selfless giving that night with the ritual of foot (or hand) washing and sharing in communion. They depart into the night to pray with Jesus in the Garden.

• April 22, Friday: Good Friday Services


- 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Prayer Vigil : You are invited to sign up for 30-minute intervals of prayer in the church sanctuary as we linger with Jesus who was executed by crucifixion; the doors will be open for those in vigil.

-Noon: Labyrinth Walk: Pastor Brandon will facilitate a labyrinth walk for those who gather at noon as another way to contemplate the sad events of Jesus’ humble suffering and the fear of his disciples and friends.

-7 p.m., Tenebrae Service: Scripture readings recount the events of the day as candles are extinguished one-by-one until we are left in shadows to wait and to wonder about the life and person of Jesus and our future.

• April 23, Saturday, 7 p.m., Labyrinth Walk, Holy Saturday: The Jewish Sabbath passes as the disciples of Jesus consider Jesus’ words anew in light of his death.  Pastor Brandon will facilitate the walk that ends as the sun surrenders its light to the horizon.  

• April 24, Sunday, Easter Day Services


- 7 a.m. Sunrise Worship Services, Greet the new day inaugurated by God in the resurrection of Jesus as we hear the words of those returning from the tomb of Jesus:  He is risen!

- 8 a.m., Sunrise Breakfast served by the United Methodist Men.

- 10 a.m. Morning Worship Service, Through Pastor Brandon’s “one-story sermon,” in prayer, and with special music we gather and celebrate our life in the resurrected Christ!  Bring your fresh flowers for the empty cross! After the services, children will enjoy a seasonal tradition and gather the once elusive Easter eggs in their baskets.
