Pastor Mark Mahaffie has been elected Senior Pastor of Sequoia Heights Baptist Church.

He has been the Pastor of Music and Education for the past 18 years at the same church.  He has been performing the duties of the Senior Pastor since the position has been vacant for past the 18 months.  To celebrate, there will be an installation service on Sunday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

Mark received his Masters Degree in Religious Education from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in Marin, CA in 1978.  He began his ministry as an Associate Pastor at Camden Avenue Baptist Church in San Jose in 1977.  He ministered there for 14 years in the areas of Music and Education.  He came to Sequoia Heights Baptist Church in 1991 in a very similar position.  While pastoring, he returned to school to obtain his Doctorate in Worship Studies at Robert Webber Institute of Worship in Florida in 2005.

Mark and his wife, Lanell, have two married children:  Leisa Moore, a teacher in San Jose and Dan Mahaffie who is attending Seminary in Kentucky.  They have one grandchild and two grandchildren on the way.

One of Mark’s first plans will be leading the church to look for a Youth Pastor.

When asked what his other goals for the church were, Mark said, “I want to continue with many of the plans our church has made over the past few years so we can be a stronger church in Christian discipleship and growth.  I want SHBC to continue to work with the churches in Manteca to reach this great city with the wonderful message of God’s love and hope for our future.”
