It’s a Christmas party with all the trimmings: a free sit-down hot meal on decorated tables complete with handmade centerpieces, live entertainment, and gifts for everyone.
That’s the annual Christmas party for seniors hosted by the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church to be held Monday, Dec. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held in the gym located at the corner of Fremont and Sutter streets.
All seniors are welcome whether are members of the parish or not.
In addition to the stockings filled with goodies that will be given to all guests, there will raffle prizes given away. Even the Star of Bethlehem table centerpieces crafted by church volunteers will be raffled off.
The menu for the Christmas dinner will be prepared by St. Anthony’s School cafeteria staff Sue Parnham who is volunteering her services. She will be assisted by Barbara Jaeger who performed this volunteer stint for years while working in the school cafeteria. A crew of volunteers will serve food and drinks to the guests.
This annual event is an entirely volunteer project with the help of generous donations — “money or (crafts) items” — from parishioners and other individuals and businesses in the community, said Sister Ann Venita. She has been coordinating this and other similar senior activities for the last several years.
