Guitarraganza taking place in September

MODESTO – The Central Valley’s first Guitar Festival, Guitarraganza, will take place September 25 – 28 and performing for the public will be some of America’s most brilliant guitarists and will feature the Grammy Award winning ensemble Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ).

The festival will begin with a concert Sept. 25 by Canadian guitarist Janet Grohovac, an accomplished performer and a professor at the Austin Texas Lutheran University.  Performing Sept.26, will be ¡Tritarra! a versatile guitar trio comprised of David Chapman, Travis Silvers and Guy Powell,  professors at Modesto Junior College.  On Sept. 27 two members of LAGQ, William Kanengiser and Scott Tennant will perform.  All three of these concerts will be performed in the Modesto Junior College Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. each night.  Tickets are available at http://mjc.tix.com or at the door 90 minutes before the concerts begins. 

There will be a unique evening concert performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts featuring LAGQ on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m.  Joining forces with this world-renown ensemble will be talented local guitar students performing the work SHIKI, written by Japanese composer Shingo Fuji in honor of the victims of last year’s Tsunami in Japan.  Tickets for this event can be purchased by contacting Gallo Center Box Office or are available at www.galloarts.org/.
