Chuck’s Place beefs up sound
Kenny Douglas expects a super-sized Super Bowl crowd. The Manager of Chuck’s Place Bar and Grill spent part of his Friday afternoon making sure that the surround sound that runs off of the eight televisions will be loud enough to drown out the sound of the crowd. The party at Chuck’s Place is scheduled to run from 3 to 7 pm. “We’re going to be offering up six wings and a half-pitcher of domestic beer for $10, and other than that it’s really going to be trying to fit everybody in here,” Douglas said. Just around the corner, Rookie’s Sports Bar will be opening their doors at 11 a.m. and plans to offer drink specials to customers that they’re hoping will flock to take the game in on the massive television screens and the sprawling viewing area. Manteca’s oldest operational sports viewing facility, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, will be offering up a large, dine-in pepperoni pizza for $14.99. No beer specials are planned.
LATHROP – The Big Apple is expected to be above freezing when the Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, and the South County will be recovering from a brief storm that brought the first rain in nearly two months.
And that’s unfortunate because there’s really only one surefire Super Bowl event going on, and it’s the kind of place where you want to be wearing your flip-flops.
Haven Acres Marina Bar and Grill – located right on the San Joaquin River – will be one of the only places in Lathrop hosting a Super Bowl event when Sunday rolls around. The spot, which is popular with boaters as an intermediary stop between Tracy and the channel in Downtown Stockton, will be offering up drink and food specials.
The CK Bar and Grill on Harlan Road won’t be having any special parties, but the restaurant will be offering up happy hour specials between the hours of 2 and 10 p.m.
But none of that matters to Enrique Moronez. He’s going to order a few pizzas, throw out some chips and salsa and call up some friends to enjoy the game in the comfort of his own home.
“I had heard there are a few things going on, but staying home is more my speed,” he said. “... It’s nice being able to get up off of your own couch when the game is all over.”
Haven Acres Marina Bar and Grill is located at 1691 Freewert Road in Lathrop. To get there from Highway 99, take the Lathrop Road exit and head west. Follow it all the way down until you pass under I-5, and made a right onto Manthey Road. Turn left on Freewert and follow it all the way down.
CK Bar and Grill is located at 14725 S. Harlan Road. To get there from Highway 99 take the Lathrop Road exit and head west. Just before you reach I-5, turn right on S. Harlan Road. The restaurant will be on the left.
