Back in the days when the San Francisco 49ers used Stockton as their summer training camp, James Paulk was there.

Any time the family of the Port City’s most famous resident Alex Spanos needs customized work to their vehicles, James Paulk is there.

When the World War II era PV-2 Harpoon fighter planes recently found a home at the Warbirds air museum at the Stockton Metro Airport, James Paulk handled the restoration of the fuel tanks.

Who is James Paulk?

He’s the owner of James Paulk Auto Body & Paint. Since 1985, he’s been at West Lane location in Stockton, repairing and renovating all foreign and domestic vehicles as well as truck, boats RVs and even trailers and golf carts.

“We have a 2001 Corvette with (custom painted) flames that we loan out,” said Paulk on Thursday.

That sporty car can be seen at a variety of functions, including Manteca and the surrounding areas.

His body repairs include color matching, glass installation, painting, collision and fiberglass work.

Paulk relies on the “honesty is our No. 1 priority” motto. But it’s been through word of mouth that continues to reel in business.

For the Niners, he did work on vehicles belonging to Ken Norton Jr., Bubba Paris, and Jerry Rice.

But you don’t have to be a Hall of Fame wide receiver to get the royal treatment.

When it comes to custom auto and body repairs, Paulk can do graphics, single or two-tone coloring, color fading, air-brushed designs and even flames to cars belonging to a former NFL All-Pro linebacker to anyone living in the 209 and beyond.

“You and your vehicles are our first priority,” he promises. “You pay good premiums for your insurance, and you can expect premium service from us.”

Andrea of Lodi remembered her experience from a couple of years ago.

“I was definitely a lady in distress when I called James,” she said.

From there, Paulk promptly took care of business. He not only picked up the customer but had the car towed to his business at 3000 West Lane for free. She had her car back in a week.

“I was so excited with the work done. It looked better than when I wrecked it. It’s been almost a year and the paint is still in great shape,” Andrea said.
