Zombies are on the horizon for the Sierra Dinner train chugging out of its Oakdale station this summer.  Also new to the long established attraction that featured a Murder Mystery and a Christmas Train is a Beer Train that is coming in mid-August.

The Sierra Railroad is located near the intersection of highways 108 and 120 – known as the Cowboy Capitol of the World.

The Zombie Train will provide its riders with some 40 laser hand guns to shoot the zombies coming toward them and record their scores beginning in July for an interactive scripted entertainment on a three-hour trip toward the historic Mother Lode.

The Beer Train runs are scheduled for Aug. 2, Sept. 13 and October 4.  The first two will depart at 5 p.m. and the third at 3 p.m.  Train riders will have the opportunity to purchase either a standard or a VIP ticket with a small meal and two additional tasting tickets.

Cost of the Zombie Train is $41.30 for the basic ride and $59 for passengers needing a gun to defend against the zombies. The standard Beer Train ride is $53.28 and the VIP ticket is $77.09.

Breweries will have their stations set up throughout the cars where the riders may sip their products with pre-purchased tickets as the train moves 15 miles down the rails.

The original Sierra Railroad was formed in 1897, connecting the Central Valley to the Gold Country.  Celebrated as being the third-oldest railroad in North America, the Sierra still hauls freight, makes Hollywood movies and carries passengers.

The Sierra Dinner Train was launched some 15 years ago in 1999, providing visitors to the valley the opportunity to travel the rails of the historic railroad with friends dining in the old cars.

Romantic dinners are offered on scheduled rides, along with lunches, Sunday brunches, wild west shows and wine tasting.

Other train trips scheduled through November and the “Thanksgiving Supper” include a “Scenic Champagne Brunch at 11 a.m. on Jul 13.  A “Saturday Night Dinner” is scheduled for July 26 at 7 p.m. followed by a “Parents Day Scenic Lunch” slated for 11 a.m. July 27.  The first “Oakdale Beer Train” will hear its call for “All Aboard” at 5 p.m. Aug. 2.  A “Murder Mystery Dinner” train is set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 9.  Then on Sept. 7 a “Grandparent’s Day Scenic Champagne Brunch” will head down the tracks at 11 a.m.
