RIPON – For more than a decade the annual ‘Taste of Ripon’ has allowed residents to mingle with downtown merchants in a friendly and festive environment.

Tonight Ripon residents will again get the chance to hit their favorite spots along the downtown commercial core as the Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event for the 15th straight year from 6 to 9 p.m.

McManis Family Vineyards will once again be donating the wine glasses that those who participate will be able to take home as souvenirs.

“It’s one of those events where the merchants get a chance to talk to the people in the community in a different environment, and it’s something that people look forward to every year,” Ripon Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Dorothy Booth said. “It’s a good thing for the merchants, and it allows people to get to know them in a different light.”

This year the chamber will be sponsoring a pair of shuttle buses to transport guests from one end of Main Street to the other.

While the heart of downtown often draws the largest crowds – with people overflowing out of places like the Medeiros Family Barber Shop that is famous for making a massive assortment of Jell-O Shots for their guests – the list of participants stretches all the way up to Schemper’s ACE Hardware.

The $25 tickets get each person a souvenir wine glass and allows them to traverse the various businesses that put out their own respective spread on their own dime.

“It’s something that couples enjoy coming out and doing together, and it’s something that groups also enjoy doing,” Booth said. “Just having people downtown is a good thing for the businesses.”

The $25 tickets are available for advance purchase at the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, located at 929 W. Main Street. All guests must be 21 years of age. For more information, call 599-7519.
