2 shot in drive-by shooting

A man and a woman in their early 20s were injured in a drive-by car-to-car shooting near the intersection of Walnut Avenue and Alameda Street Wednesday at about 6:15 p.m.

Manteca Police indicated it appears to be gang related.

The victims had driven themselves to the nearby police department. Emergency medical services were called to treat the injured and detectives were called in to assist.

The couple suffered wounds to the upper body with one victim sustaining significant injuries, police said.  He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.  The female victim was treated at another hospital.  Neither victim sustained life-threatening injuries, according to officers.

The suspect vehicle was described as a mid-2000 Chevrolet Impala or similar style vehicle. Detectives are currently investigating the shooting as well as the Gang Suppression Unit.
