A 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed Monday shortly after 10 p.m. in the 1100 block of Mt. Dew Avenue, dying an hour later at an area hospital.

Manteca Police officers were dispatched to the residence to investigate a report of a stabbing where they reportedly found an unresponsive male lying on the sidewalk suffering from stab wounds about his torso and arm, according to Sgt. Jody Estarziau.

“It appears the stabbing was not a random event,” Estarziau said.

Detectives from the Investigations Division were called out to investigate the homicide.  As of 5 p.m. Tuesday they were still actively probing the case.  The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.  No additional information is being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation, police noted.
