Landon is a 3-year-old local boy who, according to his mother, Nicole, graciously gave away his Halloween candies to a good cause.
It was part of Operation Gratitude, a non-profit organization dedicated to sending care packages to American troops stationed overseas.
In this case, Pamela Andrews, a Manteca dentist, was sending unopened trick-or-treat candies for her inaugural “Halloween Buy Back” event.
“If I had to guess we collected about 200 pounds of candy,” she said late Monday afternoon.
Andrews paid $1 per pound for the Halloween treats.
On this day, she extended her office hours at the practice located at 132 N. Grant Ave.
Those who donated were also eligible for prizes such as Stockton Thunder hockey tickets and an MP4 player.
The names of youngsters were entered into a drawing for free professional teeth whitening.
Andrews has been a general dentist in Manteca for 16 years. But this was the first time she and dental staff went to the front line to battle tooth decay.
As for the “Halloween Buy Back,” Andrews said those who stopped by were patients, both old and new, and others who heard via word of mouth or read in the newspaper.
She was just thrilled to be donating to a good cause.
Last year, Operation Gratitude collected about 122,000 pounds of candy thanks to the buy-back program.
