Students of the Cornerstone Community Theater will take part in Disney’s “The Jungle Book” this weekend.

They’re part of the Summer Musical Theater Camp under the direction of Michealle Hoag.

Performances for “The Jungle Book” are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. (matinee) and 7 o’clock (encore) on Saturday at Cornerstone Community Church, 17900 Comconex Road, Manteca.

The play will be a culmination of the hard work and effort by students of the local musical theater camp, Hoag said.

“The Jungle Book” is based on the novel by Rudyard Kipling.

Rylee Carlson stars as Mowlgi and Tatiana Gutierrez is Shanti. Cornerstone purchased the exclusive rights to the Disney play under a special arrangement with Musical Theatre International, according to Hoag.

Students will perform such Disney songs as “The Bare Necessities,” “Baloo Blues,” and “Trust in Me (the python’s song).

The costumes were pieced together by Susan Simi, who was able to borrow such items from Youth Entertainment Stage Company of Modesto and Children’s Musical Theaterworks of Modesto.

In addition, Jessica Groen (Bagheera), Justus Marson (Baloo), Dawson Beechler (Colonel Hathi), Jessica (Shere Khan),  and Alexa McIntyre (King Louie) make up some of the supporting cast.

Tickets are $5 general admission and $10 for preferred seating, and can be purchased at the Cornerstone Community Church office or at the door.
