Sister Ann Venita Britto was thankful for those helping out at the Feast of St. Anthony luncheon on Wednesday.
She listed, in no particular order, Perry & Sons, Raley’s, the Knights of Columbus, and students of St. Anthony’s School, to name a few.
“I’m sorry if I left anyone off,” Sister Ann said.
She recognized the students, who took time off from their summer break to help out as servers at the free luncheon for seniors regardless of the religious affiliations. Included were Savannah and Madison Jackson, who recently celebrated their eighth-grade promotion. Both will be attending St. Mary’s High in the coming months.
All told, 320 partook of the meal prepared by Sister Ann’s Ministry of Caring. They came in from independent, assisted living or nursing facilities such as the Commons, Merrill Gardens, Prestige, Almond Blossom, and St. Jude’s, to name a few.
Perry & Sons donated watermelon while Raley’s chipped in with cups of ice cream sundaes.
JRP Band provided the entertainment.
Born in Lisbon, St. Anthony is often recognized as the patron saint of lost articles. He also earned the title of “Evangelical Doctor” due to his insight into the Bible coupled with brilliant preaching.
Each year, a feast in his honored is held, with Sister Ann and her Ministry of Caring orchestrating the local event.
