The east side of Lathrop could soon be home to a new permanent structure that’s almost 100 feet tall.
The Lathrop Planning Commission will decide on Wednesday, July 26, whether to approve a site plan review for a project on Murphy Parkway that would include the construction of a permanent, 95-foot tall permanent tower crane as well as outdoor storage for up to 400 completed housing modules which could be stacked five stories tall.
Nemo Building Systems, which designs modules for residential apartments and student housing, is seeking to expand its current operation based in Lathrop which serves communities in Sacramento and the Bay Area as well as both the Los Angeles and San Diego metropolitan areas.
One current project, as an example, is a 236-bed students housing project in Berkeley. It will consist of 18 buildings that are five stories high utilizing 295 modules with underground mechanical rooms.
According to the staff report, the project “is subject to and shall comply with applicable Mitigation Measures under the approved Environmental Impact Report and the supplemental EIR for the Crossroads Industrial Park Project.”
And it’s not the first business in the Crossroads development that is expanding its operations.
Last week the Lathrop City Council learned that Home Depot has submitted an application to expand its current distribution facility by more than 180,000 square feet. During that meeting Mayor Sonny Dhaliwal inquired about Nemo Building Systems, and was informed that staff would be bringing the expansion project forward at a future meeting.
Onsite improvements required for the Nemo project include expanding the existing parking lot by 59 spaces, paving and increased landscaping for screening purposes.
The Lathrop Planning Commission meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at Lathrop City Hall – located at 390 Towne Centre Drive. For additional information, or to obtain a copy of the agenda, visit or call 209.941.7200.
