Accountability foremost on Carpenters campaign list

Accountability is No. 1 on Chuck Carpenter’s list.

The Shasta Park resident is seeking one of two open seats for Manteca Unified’s Area 5.

Carpenter has been concerned about spending in the district for quite some time. He’s been a cattle buyer for 35 years, with his business taking him throughout the state not to mention Nevada and Oregon.

“We have to make sure that money is going to our kids,” Carpenter said on Friday.

He’s been kept busy juggling work and his campaign.

Carpenter has attended every school board meeting since filing his candidacy.

He and his wife, Darla, have been married for 41 years. They have three adult children and nine grandchildren.

“We have family meetings to straighten out our problems,” Carpenter said at one of the recent candidate forums.

He was encouraged to seek office a few years ago when folks in his neighborhood strongly came out against the location of the multi-purpose room at Shasta School.

“We were never against building it,” said Carpenter, who was sad to see the picturesque view of the park from his home change once construction went on as planned.

If elected, he would support special education and vocational training. Carpenter also hopes to bring back class-size reduction.

“I look at how the district is spending money,” he said. “It’s confusing but I catch on fast.

“For 35 years, I’ve run my own business – I know about the bottom line.”

Carpenter will spend election night with his family.

“I still have to go to work,” he said. “I might go to sleep early.”
