The San Joaquin AgFest Junior Show and Auction is set to begin on Tuesday.
For the Manteca and Ripon chapters of Future Farmers of America – couple that with the local 4-H clubs – this is four days of competition, featuring breeding and market beef, sheep, goats, rabbit, poultry, dairy and swine at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds, 1658 S. Airport Way Stockton.
AgFest kicks off on Tuesday with the showing of market swine at 8:30 a.m.
Showmanship of dairy goats and pygmy goats will follow at 9:30, with the showing of Boer goats scheduled to begin at 10 o’clock.
The later part of the day will consist of breeding beef (1 p.m.), replacement heifer vet check (2 p.m.), market swine & breeding sheep (3 p.m.), opening ceremonies (6 p.m.) and a hamburger dinner for all exhibitors sponsored by San Joaquin-Stanislaus Cattle Women (6:15 p.m.).

Wednesday, June 17 – Market swine 4-H showmanship & breeding poultry (8:30 a.m.), market beef and market sheep (9 a.m.), breeding rabbits and breeding poultry table top show (10 a.m.), breeding poultry showmanship (noon), dairy showmanship followed by replacement heifers and market goats (1 p.m.), and market swine showmanship (3 p.m.).
Thursday, June 18 – Dairy cattle and market sheep showmanship along with market turkeys and meat birds (9 a.m.), market rabbits (10 a.m.), market goat showmanship (noon), market beef showmanship (1 p.m.), dog show (2:30 p.m.), chef demonstration at Farm to Fork (5 p.m.), and “Farm to Fork” dinner and floral auction / livestock costume contest (6:30 p.m.), ice cream social for all exhibitors sponsored by the AgFest junior board (7:30 p.m.), exhibitor social, music & fun sponsored by the San Joaquin Fair (8 p.m.).
Friday, June 19 – Livestock judging contest & Pee Wee dairy showmanship (9:30 a.m.), pre-junior showmanship & beef fitting / hay bucking contest (1 p.m.), master showmanship (6 p.m.), awards & closing ceremonies (8 p.m.).
Saturday, June 20 – Livestock & vocational auction (9 a.m.).
AgFest was the brainchild of the SJ Junior Livestock Committee as formed the previous year to continue ag-related activities for youngsters despite the absence of the San Joaquin Fair, which took a break to re-tool.
