The third annual Babe Gotschall Benefit Concert takes place Saturday, Aug. 13, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church cafeteria.

Featured will be the Christian duo, Angels in Our Eyes, whose performance will begin at 7 p.m. Their appearance is being hosted by the Anthony’s Angels.

The husband and wife duo consisting of Catherine Gotschall-Silvia and Ray Silvia will perform a 90-minute family-friendly program.

A native of Manteca, Catherine attended St. Anthony’s parish and St. Anthony’s Catholic School.

“I remember the nuns in their habits, going to daily Latin Mass before school, and singing in the choir,” recalled Catherine.

The Manteca community sponsored the teen-aged Catherine to go to New York to audition for Up With People. Catherine graduated from Manteca High School in 1968.

Catherine is the daughter of the late Ken and Babe Gotschall and the sister of John Gotschall of Manteca.

Angels in Our Eyes will be performing “Missing You,” a song written in Babe’s honor.

The duo performs community service by doing concerts for handicapped children, seniors, the Oregon Park Service, and fairs in Oregon. They have participated in variety shows to raise money for abused children, an orphanage in India, and food programs for the needy.

Ray Silvia writes the majority of the songs, having been a songwriter for many years. Originally from the Fresno area, “Harmonica Ray” is considered one of the best harmonica players on the West Coast. He has performed before thousands of people in stadiums before sports events, has been on CNN, and was a regular on KNXT TV in Fresno before he moved to Oregon.

All proceeds from the free-will concert will benefit St. Vincent de Paul Society and the Manteca Pregnancy Help Center.
